A Time for thankfulness

I just wanted to take a moment to share a quick story. A story of being thankful!

A few nights ago Cherie, Sean and their son Jonah decided to take a quick shopping trip to a nearby Lacey (about 25 or 30 min away). Although it was a bit stormy there was no undue alarm (we live in the PNW and it IS November) and so off they went. While there the storm increased and the Target lost power. So they wrapped things up and headed for home. It is a rather dark stretch even on the best of nights but this night was dark rainy and very windy. About half way home ... Cherie recounts that she looked up and could see a broken tree laying in the road … the jagged stump aimed right at her! She screamed to Sean who veered left only to be staring directly into the path of an oncoming car. Both doing 50 MPH. Quick action on the part of both drivers and the collision was avoided. There just a few seconds apart, saved two times from catastrophe.

We are, days later, still being extremely thankful for that miracle (I saw the tree on the side of the road a few days later when headed to Lacey myself). Now many might be inclined to say that they were “saved” because of their faithful service. But I have learned in life that there are no promises of safety (or health or comfort or whatever) just because we serve the Lord. Rain falls upon the just and the unjust … it is a reality that bad things can happen to very good people. I am sooo thankful that was not the case that night. I just came from their house a few minutes ago .. happy to report that life .. sweet and ordinary goes on! Thank you God for the blessing and thank you for allowing me a moment to "count" that blessing!
